YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A MILLIONAIRE
TO BE A PHILANTHROPIST!

 The History

In 1991, UBF created a separate fund to provide the opportunity for long-term investment in the United Black Fund of Greater Cleveland, Inc. (UBF). These funds are held separately from activities of the United Black Fund.

What Is The United Black Fund Philanthropic Fund?

The Philanthropic Fund is an investment option that individuals or organizations can select and establish for the purpose of supporting a cause or charity of choice.  Interest earned on the fund is distributed according to the fund holder.

A Philanthropic Fund can be established for $1,000.00.  Once the fund reaches $2,000.00 interest earned can be distributed to the cause or charity of choice.

 Why Establish a Philanthropic Fund?

Individuals may establish a Philanthropic Fund because they desire to make a difference in their community.  The desire could be to establish a memorial in the name of a deceased loved one, or donate in perpetuity to a cause or charity of choice, or make a Bequest in a Will to benefit UBF.

Organizations may establish Philanthropic Funds to provide money for scholarships or special projects to benefit the community, especially children.  It can be a means of leaving a legacy to their hometown or community, or building a new playground or providing burial costs to indigent families that cannot afford to bury a child killed by violence or abuse.

A Philanthropic Fund can turn dreams into reality and make a difference in the community.

What are the different ways to contribute to an established Philanthropic Fund?

Contributions may be made to the Philanthropic Fund in a variety of ways: a gift of cash, Bequests, securities, or other property.  There are tax benefits, however, consultation with legal and financial advisors is recommended.

How will the Philanthropic Fund be used?

The fund can only be used for charitable, educational, or religious purposes within the scope of the United Black Fund of Greater Cleveland, Inc., either directly or by contributions to other organizations for such purposes.

 How will Funds be distributed?

Funds in a Philanthropic Fund are donor advised.  The holder of the Philanthropic Fund has the option of directing interest distributions from the fund to causes or organizations of their choice.
